Welcome to The Low Maintenance Traveler!
The Low Maintenance Traveler blog is a site that shares simple, wise, and experience-focused travel in discovering the world. In TLMT, travels are based on getting quality and memorable experiences out of what we can have at the moment. Isn’t that what we all want?
Low Maintenance (adj) – retaining proper functionality over long periods with little to no maintenance; requiring little work to keep in good condition
(figuratively) as a person: a self-sufficient; not requiring much attention kind of person; independent; not demanding a great deal of attention; and requires very little time, money, or effort to look after them.
For a low maintenance person: it’s spending money wisely rather than being frugal. It’s being efficient and only packing the essentials. Also, it’s being quick to get ready, and easy to be with. And lastly, it’s making things simple but effective to everybody.
My mission:
- Be a low-maintenance traveler and share my experiences to help others get convenient, quality, and memorable trip
- Write detailed articles that will help anyone who wants to start achieving their travel dreams into reality given any circumstances
- Show you that traveling is not about who sees the most, who spends the less, and the rich who can afford it. It’s for everyone!
To accomplish these goals, I want to make this blog informative yet, personal as possible. This is for the dreamers, the passionate, the first-timers, the reality escapees, vacationers — everybody! Join me towards this new journey of making the travel life possible.
What is Low Maintenance Traveling?
You may wonder, what exactly is Low Maintenance Travel? Let’s call it LMT for short as I walk you through.
Low-maintenance travel (LMT) is getting the most authentic (quality) experience you can have from what’s available for you. It’s highly focused on experiencing and being-in-the-present while considering your reality (situation). This is different from budget traveling as LMT doesn’t focus on saving penny every time. The priority is to make the most out of your trip according to your rules and comfortability.
Who is The Low Maintenance Traveler?
Hello, main! I’m Mikaela, your low maintenance traveler friend.
Mikaela is a 20-something-year-old Filipino aspiring travel blogger who writes travel guides, experiences, tips, and more from the perspective of a low-maintenance person. She’s a dreamer, hoping to embark on a new life that enables her to travel frequently, regardless of how long it will take. A passionate in everything she does kind of girl; she makes things happen if she sets her mind to it.
Low maintenance friend
I am often labeled as ‘low-maintenance, sponty friend’ (as in spontaneous) when it comes to traveling. A few days before college graduation, I felt lost more than ever regarding my life. I just got my toga when a block mate saw me sitting in a corner and wondered how far my spontaneity could take me. She joked how about I join them in South Korea, 17 days before the departure flight? I stood up, said yes (no kidding), and immediately prepared my documents for the visa. To make this possible, I worked hard to cover everything (16 days to prepare for everything, including the visa), and by far, it’s the best decision I’ve ever made.
I felt like a real person responsible for her happiness for the first time. Luckily I saved money seriously during my sophomore year that enabled me to shoulder ALL my travel expenses (yes, including visa processing fee, flight tickets, accommodations, pocket money, etc.) During my first overseas trip before I got a job.
Since then, I find ways to travel and be genuinely happy (hello to side hustles, my small business, and wise money spending).
Travel Style
I was raised to enjoy the things I have. Therefore, I live my life focusing on having quality and memorable experiences from what is available for me. I’ve accepted that this is who I am as a person and a traveler. I always dream about traveling and I’m happy that I have a passion for it. When I say low maintenance, we’ll concentrate on getting the most authentic travel experience with what’s available for you.
- Spending your money wisely
- Being efficient, knowing when to exert energy
- Packing the essentials or what is needed at a time
- Quick to get ready
- Easy to be with
- Finds solutions rather than complain, and
- Making things simple but effective
FAQs
How long have you been traveling?
I started traveling after my college graduation last June 2019. Since then, I fell in love with the feeling and starts to dream of having a travel lifestyle. Which brings us to my new journey as an aspiring travel blogger.
What do you do for a living? Are you rich?!
I’m currently a researcher and NO, I’m not rich. Most of my travel budget come from my savings and side hustles. Hopefully, I could sustain this through my blog someday.
How do you support your travels?
Since I’m new in the traveling world, I do my best to spend money wisely. Also, I constantly look for side hustles. The earnings that I have from it is dedicated to traveling. This way, I won’t make myself broke even if I plan to travel often.
Why do you want to travel?
Wow, this is a tough question, but I’m going to be honest. Do you ever feel like you don’t belong anywhere? Well, that’s what I feel for the longest time. Long commutes, long walks, and being in new places are what makes me sane and happy during down times. Traveling is an eye-opener for me. It helps me become perceptive of other culture and it takes off the unwanted pressures in life. Whenever I travel, I feel that I belong to the place I want to be. I don’t know if it makes sense to you, but that’s enough for me to keep going.
